The two sides of Diwali
Every coin has two sides ! Yup there's two sides of Deepawali as well, the festival of lights, in which brightness wins over the dark.
First Let's look at the bright side, because Why not ? So as most of us know, We get a lot of holidays, We clean our houses, and almost every other thing we own, from vehicles of desktops and tablets. We praise the god, do our prayers, take bath (yes some people may bath more than once on this occasion! Just kidding). We put on new nice clothes, thanks to the great shopping discounts, both on online and nearby stores. This is also the time to buy expensive things, as they will be available at an exceptionally low rate. This is'n't all, we light up our homes, shops, offices, schools and colleges with candles, or in most modern cases, with electronic lights.
We get to eat sweets ! And for Ambiverts like me, it is a great opportunity to meet up with a lot of people, talk have fun play around, sing and dance. Catch up with old friends and make amends to broken bonds.
Which brings us to the other side of it, for Introverts, it can be really terrible, because well I don't need to explain the reason here. It's not great for the elderly either, especially the ones with hearing issues or breathing problems, and I'm sure you've seen the smoke and noise comes along with the bright firecrackers, but did you ever think of how it affects other people ? forget peopel, you like dogs ? how about puppies ? no ? birds ? cats ? name it and every animal is affected by the excessive noise that we produce on the night of diwali. Apart from all this, there are people who had to unfortunately stay late in the office because they need the extra money or something like that, when they return home that night, they think at least 10 times whether they should get out or not. Because who knows when they might be the victim of a diwali bomb meant to be just for fun. In most of India, It's cold by the time diwali comes, so when all the firecrackers have been burnt, they leave a huge smokescreen as the night ends, in the mornings, it mixes with the fog, and we all know what that means. A potential chronic lung condition for that mornings' joggers and newspaper delivery guys.
Now, Don't even get me started on the effects it has on the enviornment, Our earth is left with nothing but waste lying around all over the city. And in most places it's not even cleaned by municipalty because even the workers want diwali holidays. So what happens ? the waste stays there for another two or three days right in front of our houses. The cows which are worshipped as goddesses, then eat those scraps of paper. What justice is that ?
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate diwali, but i don't exactly love it either, all i'm doing is stating my opinion. And besides I'm not saying don't celebrate, I'm just saying when we are doing so much to keep the insides of our houses clean, why not the outside too ? Why not clean it up as soon as we're done ? And if you don't wish to do that, maybe you could just not use crackers, instead use bright lights, music and lamps. Who doesn't love a classic setting ?
Thank you all for reading, I wish all the est in all the adventures of your lives that you are about to embark on. Stay blessed people !
